Joshua – Status Update
April 5, 2026
Yesterday was a quiet day for Joshua. It was a bit disappointing that he didn't get extubated, but we still felt comfortable with the direction everyone was taking with his treatment.
Spending time in the hospital on Easter is strange. There is a desire to enjoy worshipping and celebrating the resurrection of Christ with our church family, but that desire clashes with the absolute need to be with our children in the hospital. In the end, we know we can celebrate Christ's resurrection whereever we are and that includes spending time with our children.
When we arrived, there still hadn't been a decision to extubate Joshua. The exciting thing when we arrived is that they were shifting Joshua from his bed to a chair. Yesterday they converted his bed into a chair. Today they moved him into a very high tech cheair that allows for all kind of adjustment. It has been good to spend time with Joshua while he is sitting in his special chair.
At around 2:30, they began talking about some assessments of Joshua to see if he was ready for extubation. He passed the first test positively. Now they are on a 30 minute test where Joshua is being evaluated for spontaneous breathing. The challenge is, Joshua has a type of sleep apnea where there are times when he just doesn't breath. Obviously, this makes people nervous. We are still hopeful the extubation will happen this afternoon.
